A man whose parents were killed in the MH17 disaster says lasting peace in Ukraine is the only thing that will bring solace to the families of victims.
Queensland man Paul Guard lost his parents Dr Jill Guard and Dr Roger Guard in the accident in July, and has called for an end to the violence in Ukraine.

He said the preliminary report into the air disaster this week, which points to the plane being shot down, does not bring him closure.

“It confirms things we either already knew or had surmised,” Mr Guard told The New Daily.
“I blame the conflict itself for my parents’ death.”
Mr Guard made headlines this month when he said Russian leader Vladimir Putin should be welcome to attend the G20 Leaders Summit in Brisbane later this year.
He still stands by this statement.
“I don’t think much would be achieved by uninviting him,” he said.
Mr Guard returned from Amsterdam yesterday with his parents bodies, and is planning a private funeral service for them in Toowoomba, outside of Brisbane.
He has called on world leaders to continue to renounce violence and for the international community to focus on building lasting peace in eastern Ukraine.
