Road closures meant few got to see the rare view. The snow was expected to melt quickly, but instead lasted several days. Arizona, normally dry and barren, received inches of snow. The cold weather front saw temperatures dip to minus 10 degrees. Last year the Grand Canyon was also covered in thick fog. Tourists and hikers shared the incredible views on Twitter and Instagram. Hikers braved the weather conditions. The storm blanketed the Grand Canyon in snow on New Year's Day. This 65-year-old hiker ticked-off her bucket list wish with the addition of rare snow. Hundreds of people were stranded by the winter storm. The canyon's state of Arizona was covered in four-inches of snow.
