The Villarrica volcano is one of Chile's most active volcanos in the world. It last erupted 15 years ago. It is a popular destination for tourists and hikers, who climb the peak each Summer to peek inside the crater. The volcano sits above the small town of Pucon, which is home to 22,000 people. Authorities feared mudslides and flooding from melted snow caps, but no injuries were reported. Chile has 2000 volcanos, with more than 100 of them still active. Many Chileans saw the eruption unfold from their bedroom windows. The eruption was classified as a relatively low-impact one, with lava reaching less than 5 kilometres. Dozens were left stranded after two bridges were washed away in mud slides. Pucon's mayor said volcanic activity began to die down with 20 minutes, with most of the eruption over by the next day.
