A tech entrepreneur and one of his senior executives have found themselves in unwelcome limelight after apparently having their affair exposed at a concert.
Astronomer CEO Andy Byron and his HR chief Kristin Cabot were captured by the “kiss cam” at Coldplay’s Boston concert on Wednesday, swaying to the music with their arms wrapped around each other.
Footage that had millions of views by early Friday (Australian time) – and was still clocking up more – shows the pair looking aghast and ducking for cover as they realise they’re on show much larger than life on the giant camera at Boston’s Gillette Stadium.
“Look at these two,” Coldplay leader singer Chris Martin said when he first saw the pictures.
But their reaction clearly left him confused.
“Either they’re having an affair or they’re just very shy,” Martin says to cheers and gasps from the audience.
“Holy sh-t. I hope we didn’t do something bad,” he says in another clip circulating on X.
Astronomer is a $US1.2 billion ($A1.85 billion) company that “empowers data teams to bring mission-critical software, analytics, and AI to life”, according to its website.
Byron became the company’s chief executive in 2023, according to his since-deleted LinkedIn account. Its headquarters moved from Cincinnati to New York City last year, with Cabot joining the company last November.
At the time, Bryon described her as “a proven leader”.
“Kristin’s exceptional leadership and deep expertise in talent management, employee engagement and scaling people strategies will be critical as we continue our rapid trajectory,” he said in a statement announcing her appointment.
It is unclear whether Byron’s wife, Megan Kerrigan Byron, was also at the Coldplay concert. In the hours after the kiss cam incident set the internet ablaze, she first deleted her surname from her social media accounts and later closed the accounts.
Cabot is reportedly recently divorced from husband Kenneth Thornby. They share at least one child.
The incident has already sparked numerous memes and parody posts. Among them is one claiming to be from Byron, apologising to “my family, my wife and our wonderful employees”.
“I am a Coldplay fan. And not just of the first two albums. I also like the recent stuff,” the fake post reads.
Another, attributed to Coldplay, is also being widely shared.
“Starting with our next show, we’re introducing camera-free audience sections for people and their sidepieces,” the fake announcement reads.
