Sleeping in the nude can help you get a better night’s rest and protect against disease, according to a medical expert.

Going to bed without clothes on helps to regulate your temperature and prevent overheating, creating a number of health benefits including improved sleep quality, GP Dr Sarah Brewer told a British newspaper.

Women who go commando can reduce the chances of yeast infections, she said.

Men who do the same lower the likelihood of fungal infections in the groin – otherwise known as “jock itch”, she added.

“Keeping the area cool, dry, clean and ‘aired’ at night will help to reduce the overheating that promotes this – especially in summer,” she was quoted as saying.

For women going through menopause, going to bed without pyjamas or a nightie can prevent hot flushes.

One in three adults sleep in the nude, an international study by the US National Sleep Foundation found.
