A 10 News+ investigation has exclusively uncovered the victim of an extraordinary legal claim against betting giant Tabcorp.
A woman, whom we’ll call Jenny, started betting on horse racing with Tabcorp before the pandemic, and it soon took over her life.
She was placing hundreds of bets a month, at all hours.
We’ve seen documents detailing her deposit history, and they’re astonishing.
She has been left drowning in $900,000 of debt, after the company encouraged her to punt even after its system flagged her as a problem gambler in need of a welfare check.
Perhaps even more astonishing is that she’s managed to hide her dire financial situation from her husband and two adult children, even though she took out loans in their names to fuel her addiction.
The regulator has already fined Tabcorp more than $4 million over its treatment of the former customer, but now she’s fighting back, heading to court, in a David and Goliath battle against the powerful agency.
