A sweet plant-based treat made with vegan chocolate has been recalled over a food safety hazard.

An alert has been issued for two varieties of LoveRaw Peanut Butter Cups sold at independent food stores in NSW, ACT, VIC and WA.

The affected flavours are M:lk Choc and White Choc which both contain an undeclared allergen — gluten.

Authorities warned that gluten was present in the Peanut Butter Cups but was not listed on the product’s label.

People with Celiac Disease can have extreme allergic reactions to gluten if even a tiny trace is present in a food. Many consumers also have an intolerance to gluten.

“Any consumers who have a gluten allergy or intolerance may have a reaction if the product is consumed,” said an alert by Food Standards Australia New Zealand.

“Consumers who have a gluten allergy or intolerance should not consume this product and should return the products to the place of purchase for a full refund.”

LoveRaw is a UK business founded in 2013 by Manav and Rimi Thapar with a goal of making vegan chocolate that tastes like real chocolate.

Vegan chocolate does not contain animal products such as dairy.

LoveRaw products are all plant-based and sold at independent food retailers.
