A 16-year-old boy has been charged after a ride-share driver was critically injured in a stabbing at a Gold Coast shopping centre early on Wednesday.
Queensland Police said emergency services were called Coomera Westfield on Foxwell Road about 1.25am, following reports a 32-year-old woman had been stabbed multiple times.
They found the woman in a car with multiple stab wounds to her neck and face.
“She has been transported to Gold Coast University Hospital, where she remains in a critical condition,” they said.
The incident happened at a drop-off point at the Westfield entrance.
Police alleged a male booked a ride with the female Uber driver and they travelled from Hope Island to Coomera before she was discovered about 1.25am.
“Our investigations say that she was there for an hour or two before being discovered by the security guard,” Gold Coast Detective Inspector Paul Fletcher said.
Queensland Police said later that investigations led them to a 16-year-old from Upper Coomera. Later on Wednesday they said he had been charged with one count each of acts intended to cause grievous bodily harm, armed robbery and deprivation of liberty.
He will appear at Southport Children’s Court on Thursday.
