World’s tallest slide looks like way too much fun

The world’s “longest and tallest tunnel slide” is set to be built at London’s Olympic Park, opening to the public in 2016.

The slide will start at the top of the pre-existing Orbit Sculpture observation tower in the precinct, and will stretch down around it at a length of 178m and 76m wide.

Sections of the slide will be transparent so riders can see out during the experience – set to cost just over $10 per ride. 

According to an official announcement, users will reach almost 25km/h during the 40-second trip.

The Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park told The Independent: “We are delighted to announce that planning permission has been granted to build the world’s tallest and longest tunnel slide from the top of the ArcelorMittal Orbit.”

Sitting at 114.5 metres tall, the sculpture the slide will wrap around was built for the London 2012 Olympics and is the tallest in Britain.

It was designed by artists Anish Kapoor and Cecil Balmond.
