A painting stolen from an Adelaide hospital ward has been returned after being found at a business in Adelaide’s northern suburbs on Friday morning.

The large Wally the Galah painting was taken from the cardiology ward Lyell McEwin Hospital – one of Adelaide’s busiest hospitals – on December 28,

Police said a man walked in and took the artwork off the wall. He was filmed by security cameras strapping it to the roof of his car and driving away.

Officers later searched a house in Salisbury Heights, in Adelaide’s north, and reported a 38-year-old man for theft and possessing a prohibited weapon. The painting wasn’t found.

On Friday, police said a member of the public found the painting at an Elizabeth North business premises. The business was not named.

The painting was returned to the hospital soon after.

A man will appear in the Elizabeth Magistrates Court at a later date.
