A Canberra Islamic centre is playing down the discovery of a severed pig’s head outside its premises, as a nuisance more than anything.

A member of the Monash centre found the severed head on the driveway on Monday morning as worshippers gathered for dawn prayers.

ACT Policing are reviewing CCTV footage of the incident.

The centre’s president Azra Khan told AAP local Muslims were unfazed by the apparent race-hate incident.

“It’s not a big issue,” she said.

“It’s more a nuisance than anything.

“They want some kind of response and we’re not going to give them the pleasure of that.”

It’s not the first time the centre has been targeted.

Last year vandals broke into the community centre, trashing and spraying obscenities on the walls.
