Father and sons dead after Broken Hill workshop tragedy

Three males have died in a workshop accident in Broken Hill, in far west New South Wales.

Police confirmed the deceased were a father and two sons.

The incident happened in a work shed in a property in Creedon Street and involved a generator.

The man, 44, and his sons, 16 and 23, were unresponsive when emergency services arrived at the scene.

Seven News Adelaide reports all ambulances tweeted: “All available ambulances have been called to a property in Broken Hill tonight – where three people have been found unconscious in a shed. It’s believed a generator has malfunctioned and they have collapsed overcome by the dangerous fumes.”

NSW Police released a statement on Thursday night.

“A report will be prepared for the Coroner following the death of three family members in Broken Hill today,” it said.

“About 4.30pm emergency services were called to a home on Creedon Street, Broken Hill, following reports three people were unconscious in a rear shed.

“On arrival police and NSW Ambulance paramedics located a 44-year-old man, and two boys, aged 16 and 23 unresponsive.

“All three were taken to Broken Hill Hospital but sadly passed away.

“Officers from Barrier Police District have established a crime scene at the premises. It will be some time before officers can gain access safely to conduct a full investigation.

“Inquiries continue.”
