NSW Police are probing possible links between a double shooting on a busy suburban street and a car fire, as they piece together the events leading up to both incidents.

Officers were called to Church Street at Parramatta in Sydney’s west about 5.10pm on Sunday, where they found two men with multiple gunshot wounds, near two others who were uninjured.

The injured men were taken to hospital for further treatment.

Sooner after, police were called to Sherwood Street in Merrylands West, about 4.7 kilometres from the shooting scene, after receiving reports of a car fire.

They arrived to find a car and a nearby tree well alight. Fire crews extinguished the blaze, but the vehicle was destroyed.

Police are investigating whether the two incidents are linked. Crime scenes have been established at both locations.
