A man has been gunned down in a car on a quiet suburban Sydney street, in the second fatal shooting in 48 hours.

NSW Police said the victim was killed about 7pm on Tuesday in Winston Hills, in the city’s west.

Officers arrived on scene at Regiment Grove and were told a man had been shot while in a car outside homes.

The man was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being taken to hospital where he later died.

The man, believed to be in his 20s, is yet to be formally identified.

The man was reportedly shot in the chest. The Daily Telegraph says police could be seen paying close attention to a Toyota sedan with a smashed passenger’s side window.

Blood could reportedly be seen smeared on the glass section of a nearby front door.

A burnt-out car was found about three kilometres away on Old Toongabbie Road, with police investigating any possible links.

One teenager who lives in the street told the Nine Network she looked out her window and saw a man on an ambulance stretcher with a gunshot wound to his chest.

David, another resident, told the outlet he was “very worried” about such a brazen crime in the neighbourhood.

“It’s a nice area. I have my kids here,” he said. “They go to school in the area, and it’s a really nice area and I’m just, yeah, very concerned about it.”

A crime scene was established and Parramatta detectives – with assistance from State Crime Command’s homicide squad – have launched an investigation.

It was the second public place shooting in Sydney in 48 hours after two men were shot at while leaving a pub at Forest Lodge, in the inner city, on Sunday night.

The two men were walking to a car about 100 metres from The Harold hotel when they were attacked.

One bullet narrowly missed a woman working at the hotel.

Emergency services arrived to find two men with multiple gunshot wounds at about 6.40pm.

Gilbert Shino, 39, was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics. However, he died at the scene.

A 31-year-old, named in media reports as Maradona Yalda, was also treated for gunshot wounds. He was taken to hospital in a serious condition and was placed under police guard.

Police have appealed for public help to find a dark-coloured vehicle that left the scene near The Harold Hotel, and at least one shooter.
