Major traffic delays after two Melbourne trams collide

There are major delays in Melbourne’s city centre after two trams collided at a busy intersection.

Emergency services were called to the incident at Victoria Parade and Nicholson Street, East Melbourne about 10am on Wednesday.

Trams along routes 86, 96 and 30 have been diverted along La Trobe Street. All west and southbound traffic lanes are also closed through the intersection.

Victoria’s Department of Transport advised the disruption was expected to take some time to clear.

Paramedics were called to the scene but did not treat or transport any patients, Ambulance Victoria confirmed.
