Police are investigating the fatal shooting of a 21-year-old man in broad daylight in a suburban laneway in Melbourne’s outer north.
Detectives say the victim was approached by an unknown male behind a home on Champions Parade, in Wollert, just before 9am Thursday.
The victim was gunned down, and the suspect fled the scene in a vehicle.
The man’s body was found next to a car, with the laneway cordoned off by police.
“Despite the best efforts of emergency services to revive the 22-year-old man, he was declared deceased at the scene,” said a statement from Victoria Police .
“No arrests have been made at this stage and a crime scene has been established.”

Detectives said they believed the shooting was a targeted attack.
Crime scene images show a silver BMW sedan parked in front of a skip bin, its driver’s side window shattered and the door left open.
Officers received reports of a burnt-out car on Amery Street, in Reservoir, about 13 kilometres away from the shooting.
“We don’t know if that is linked to this particular incident this morning,” said Homicide Squad Detective Inspector Dean Thomas.
