The wild start to summer is expected to calm down in time for Australians to enjoy a dry, warm and “settled” Christmas Day.
The Bureau of Meteorology released its seven-day forecast leading up to Christmas Day next Wednesday.
So far this week there have been floods in Queensland, heatwaves in southern states and fire dangers in NSW and Victoria.
But next week, millions of people can look forward to a reprieve from weather extremes as they come together for festive celebrations.
Maximum temperatures on December 25 are forecast to be more representative of this time of year in most states.
Extremes of rain and heat may also be holding off long enough for a few games of backyard cricket.
“Australians can start preparing for the festive season with the likely weather in mind,” said BOM’s Christmas outlook.
